php 8.0 is OK with phpBB 3.3.3

No php 8 is no good just yet it's full of bugs also many phpbb ext's do not work with php 8.

Php 8 should not be used it is full of bugs at this level of 8.0.2 it's that simple.

I can believe that
there is nobody from phpbb.nl or com
who recommend php 8?
my other extensions work
with phpbb 3.3.3
without php 8
they have not been properly informed
or they do this at their own risk?
but not seen me?
the indicated extensions
just need to be adjusted

Phpbb 3.3.3 was made for php 8 but php 8 has bugs coming out in it even wordpress is having issues with php 8.

So yes phpbb will work on php8 BUT lots of ext's dont so there for until things get updated stay on php7.

Yes, as Martin says, it is better to stay in version 7.4 of php
But I don't think your problem is due to a php version
