Unzip the downloaded release, and change the name of the folder to `filedownload`.
In the `ext` directory of your phpBB board, create a new directory named `dmzx` (if it does not already exist).
Copy the `filedownload` folder to `/ext/dmzx/` if done correctly, you'll have the main extension class at (your forum root)/ext/dmzx/filedownload/composer.json
Navigate in the ACP to `Customise -> Manage extensions`
Look for `File Download` under the Disabled Extensions list, and click its `Enable` link.
How would you do that keeping the site intact?
Copy the new files overwriting the old ones or is there a auto update process? I've done that once.
I did a fresh install of 3.1.6-RC1 on my other site so I have the files.

Yes martin that was the one I used before, thank you, and it went smooth last time.
This time it had a fatal error. I selected replace all of the files also... so I had to do a fresh install.
